Sew-Day

Let me tell you, when I left work on Wednesday,
there was no snow.
In fact, we had finally got rid of all of it,
Except the huge piles of snow from plowing.
And those huge puddles,
that come from melting snow,
that kids love to walk through,
they were gone.

Before I went to bed that night,
we had 6 inches of snow,
so a snow day was in order.
They called it snow event,
but frankly,
we were having a blizzard.
And not the good kind you get at Dairy Queen.

I decided to take it as a gift,
I spent the day in my sewing room,
-away from the window-
and made 18 sheep blocks.

It was not that fun,
but they did turn out pretty cute.

I worked yesterday to put it together,
and I might just get this quilt done before the baby comes.

I love these sheep and I have another grand daughter coming latter this year.
I think I will do something with 12' blocks.

So much to sew, so little time

I have the curtains that my mother made for brothers when they were little.
I have looked at them for a long time and finally decided that I should make
each of my brothers  a little quilt out of them.

I went to visit my daughter this weekend and we started our shoe shopping with a visit to
I have no idea how that happens, but it always does.

I was not prepared, but I took a wild guess and bought theses fabrics to work with.
They will work great.
I will send my daughter over to buy more.

I went in to buy a back for the sheep quilt.
I also bought some more fabric for the sheep.

The shoe shopping was equally victorious.

I also went to Geraldine s funeral this week.
In every talk, they said something about canning.
It wasn't just me.

Geraldine's Endless Canning

I made a quilt that I named after my mom's aunt.

But when I made this one,
I thought of another one of her aunts.

Every time we went to her house,
she was in one stage or another of canning.
The garden was huge,
The canning was a summer long adventure.
They had 13 kids and lived on a teachers salary.
She was amazing.
She passed away this week.
Nothing to be sad about.
She lived 88 years and has 13 wonderful children.
I will miss her.

I have named my little quilt
Geraldine's Endless Canning
For the record, she was a quilter too.

I made the first of the blocks for Mrs. Pickles.
-my new grand daughter-

I have three planned including some very cute sheep blocks.

The first complete quilt of the new year!

I was so happy this week when I realized that I was going to finish this.

When I work on something this big,
I just assume it will never end.
So when I realized I was on the last row:

WOOT -- WOOT

I am taking a break from the hand quilting for a spell.
This one really hurt my thumb.
I had problems I've never had before;
The needle making a hole in my thumb nail and bleeding in the thumb.
It was probably the smaller needle I used.

At any rate, I have plenty of other projects to work on.

Good to be Home

I finished this cross stitch.  I'm looking forward to visiting the Redwoods this Summer with my kids.  I was home this weeke...
