T-shirt quilts!

I finished this quilt.
It was for my daughter.
I love this one,
the fabric is from the dresses I made her
combined with some t-shirts.

Her husband also was gifted a t-shirt quilt.
Nothing like this but made by an interesting company.
You should check it out.
They did a beautiful job.

Even though we live in Idaho now,
I spent many years living in Yuba City California.

It is not far from Paradise California,
which recently suffered devastating effects from the
Camp Fire.

This came up on Facebook yesterday and I wanted to encourage anyone who is interested to join in on this challenge.

Debbie's Quilt Shop was in Paradise, CA. A tree fell thru the roof and there was severe water damage. Let's help her help local quilters ???
Debbie's Quilt Shop is requesting quilt blocks with houses from all over to help local quilters recover from the Camp Fire. The blocks must be 10 1/2 inches (10 inch finished) and may be pieced, appliquéd, or embroidered. Please use good quality 100% cotton quilt shop fabric. Each block must also have something written on it with permanent ink...an inspiring saying, your name and city, or just your city and the date. The houses on the blocks may be traditional, modern, or wonky...as long as the block is 10.5 inches. My shop has not yet moved into its new address so blocks may be sent to my home for now...

Everyone please share this post, I would like it to go as far as possible...Thank you.

White Dresses

I made this little dress for my grand daughter.
It was a joy to make and a delight to see her in it.

One more week of school.
I am looking forward to some quilting over the winter break.

Open House

I wasn't' going to post today,
but then I realized that I went to
for her Open House.

My quilting buddy was out of town,
so I went alone.

I honestly believe that no quilter is ever alone.
There is always someone to talk to at a quilt store.

I had a delightful time and hope
Salli has a great year ahead of her.

If you are ever in the area,
and it is off the beaten path,
you should stop by and have a visit with Salli.

I love this one.
It brings back such sweet memories.

Next....

This quilt is next to be quilted.
I have been cross stitching and ignoring it,
but I had some time today.

Honestly, I don't even know if I like it.
I am giving it away,
but I hate it when I'm just not sure about the finished product.

What am I talking about?
This isn't finished.

Happy Quilting.

Tulip Surprise

I have been working on this quilt for more than a month.
You know?
A little here, a little there.

I never planned on putting it together this week,
but I had a lunch date cancel
and found myself with some time.

I just kept on going.
It isn't done, but I happy with it so far.

Happy Sewing!

New and the Old

I am working on a new project.
I love these bright fabrics.

I finished quilting this one.
I made it with someone in mind.

Someone who has been a great example to me through
a journey with cancer.

I took it to her only to find that her journey is not yet over.
She said it gave her hope that she could continue to fight.
We talked and cried about her life changing journey.
Sometimes, it not about the quilt,
but more about the visit that happens when you deliver the quilt.

More green dresses

We made it through the wedding.
The dresses fit the girls
and the boys had ties to match thanks to their mom.

This may be my favorite shot from the wedding.

The kids had a marvelous time dancing/running  for hours at the reception.

We got back in time to start a new year at school.

I make time every night to work on this quilt.

It is almost finished.

Dresses and Flowers

Five dresses ready for the wedding on Saturday.

These turned out pretty good.

I planted seeds with my Kinders last year.

And have looked at these all summer and
remembered my little students.

Sandwiching with Friends

I invited begged my neighbor to help me sandwich this big quilt.
Her husband volunteered to help.

I told Wes he had better come too.
He was a little uneasy sewing,
but he did a great job.

This is where he  is more comfortable.
And let me tell you,
we have had a lot of work this summer.
Blessing really.

Minky Backs

 When I made this quilt,
I envisioned a bright pink minky back.

I found the minky
(on Amazon and it is a nice minky)
and then I started reading about quilting it.
I also asked Google a lot of questions.

I settled on Dritz Basting Spray.

Then I put the top on and pinned it for good measure.

Everything I read said I had to do an all over pattern,
but I didn't want one.
This quilt is busy enough.

It worked out just lovely.
I was pretty excited about it.

Then I decided to bind with minky.
Not a great idea.

I will remember next time.

Making a big Quilt

I need to make a big quilt for a wedding present.
I don't have a lot of time.

This first thing I did was cut out the pieces.

Am I the only one who uses tally marks to cut out 100's of pieces?

Then I spent 2 days and made 90 blocks.

My next step was laying it out.
That turned out to be a problem as my space for that was filled with 18 sewing machines.

I finally found a place to lay  it out.

I am planning on sewing rows this after noon.
I look to future and know,
I have to keep moving on this one.

I am also sewing little girl dresses.
This needs a couple of buttons,
which I need to find.

It has been a busy week at the sewing machine.

Sweet Summer

I love summer in Idaho.
Things start to grow and turn green.

I started my Wednesday tradition of sandwiching a quilt.
I love, love, love, working on this one.

I finished this one.
I have one more that I am going to machine quilt.

Have a good one.

Forest Ranger Cabin

We have been on the road.

Last week, we stayed at this adorable Forest Ranger Cabin near Helena, Montana.
I must admit that I have a thing for Montana.

This cabin was built in 1920.
It was a delight to stay it.

It had a cute little braided rug in it,
that added warmth to the living space.
Unfortunately, it really needed mended.
One of the braids was a tripping hazard and I just couldn't help but think
that it would be pretty easy to fix.

I had a needle that I knew would work, but I needed thread.
Lucky for me, there was a quilt store in Avon Montana.
I believe this is the only store in town.
It is cute and had many lovely things in it, including some thread.

So I sat on the floor and repaired this rug.
As you can imagine, I could only see the big problem in the rug,
until I sat down.
I then saw multiple little problems.
I fixed until my back said, "Enough!"

I hope it last and that many more visitors enjoy their stay in this cabin.

Before and After

I really needed some new flowers for my little table.
I had a vision,
but boy,
I had no talent.

So, I went to visit Dixie and
she does have some talent,
I like it.

Then there was this quilt.
I promised myself that I would put it together.
This was not what I had in mind.

So, I went to talk to my neighbor about it.
She suggested a darker outer boarder.

What a difference.

Now it needs the quilting fairy to visit it.

I spent a few hours with my friend Dixie this week.
She wanted to make the receiving blankets I make.

While I was helping her,
I realized, I was teaching an old dog a new trick.
She agreed.

And then I got a package in the mail.
It turns out, I really am addicted to cross stitch.
I am looking forward to working on a new project.

Quilt Market and Hydrangeas!

I just want to say that I love Quilt Market Week.
I want to go some day.
I honestly have no idea what I would do there,
but I love looking at the post that I see from Quilt Market.

What a beautiful habit quilting is.

I made 9 of these and feel in love with them.
I want to put this quilt together tomorrow,
but I have an errand that may take longer than I want.

It's all good,
I'm almost home for the summer.

Speaking of summer,
look what is coming back?

It is my hydrangea.
When I saw it yesterday,
It made my heart happy.

You just wait and see,
it will be worth it.

Hope you all have a good week.

Derby Day

Yesterday was Derby Day.
I had planned to sew until 4 and then take some time to pick a winner.

I finally got the pieces of this block ready and I had to put them together.

The next set of blocks are yellow.

I like this project.
Not going to lie,
I'm not sure how it is going to end.

I am crazy about the Kentucky Derby.
I always say it is because it is a 2 minute sporting event.
Each horse has a story.
And each jockey has a story also.

But the colors,
That may be what wins me over.

Even in the mud, it is a beautiful sight.

Baby Steps

This is a really busy time of year for me.

I thought I would give the instructions one more try.
It worked.

So I am ready for the next step.

New Project

I had an idea.
I am using a pattern.
I am just struggling with the big picture.

I put a boarder on this one.
I like it more everyday.

I'm in love with this tulip pattern.
I feel like I have found my summer scrap project.

The Right Color

I took this to my sewing room to make a pillow. I was really thinking of purple and beige. I found a green while looking for pur...
