I made a decision to quilt the boarder in the same color as the fabric and take out the original thread.
I started with the dark brown. I really like the feel of the quilt and was making progress when I realized that I couldn't take out these stitches made by my great aunt.
I called Mary, her daughter. After a very long political discussion, which I knew would happen, I asked her about taking out the stitches. We figured out that the quilt was about 50 years old. Mary didn't care either way.
So I texted Liz. I told her I felt like I was taking out family history if I took out the stitches. After some conversation about how I recived this job, we decided that I would keep the stitches in and just quilt beside them.
It became a little emotional for me, thinking about the original quilter. Quilts can last longer than one generation. They can be a some piece of someone's life.
Keep a needle in your heart to warm your heart.....
